Critical Role
Critical Role is an American actual-play web series and media company in which professional voice actors play Dungeons & Dragons and related tabletop RPGs on livestream. Episodes air on Twitch and YouTube and have been among the most-watched long-form TTRPG broadcasts, spawning books, an animated series, and live tours.[1]
History[edit]
The show began in 2015 (initially via Geek & Sundry) with Game Master Matthew Mercer and a cast of voice actors including Marisha Ray, Ashley Johnson, Travis Willingham, Laura Bailey, Liam O’Brien, Taliesin Jaffe, and Sam Riegel. After leaving Geek & Sundry the group formed Critical Role Productions, continued weekly campaigns (including Campaign 2 “The Mighty Nein” and later campaigns), and expanded into publishing and The Legend of Vox Machina animation.[1]
The Twitch channel remains a primary live venue for new episodes, talks, and specials, making Critical Role one of the highest-profile non-esports gaming channels on the platform.[1]
